Hitman: Contracts - Game crashes when run

When I start Hitman Contracts it shows a black screen for a few seconds and crashes to my desktop. What can I do?

This can be caused by attempting to run the game on hardware that does not fully support certain sound features the game attempts to use.

Try this to correct the crash:

  • Click Start > Run > and type in dxdiag then Click OK
  • Click on Sound Tab and set the Hardware Sound Acceleration down to None, Basic or Standard instead of Full Acceleration.
  • Exit the Tool, then try the game again.

If you find that the game runs after lowering Hardware Sound Acceleration it likely means that your sound card or device is not fully EAX compatible with the version of EAX that the game is using.
