It is important that you install the latest drivers. If you hear sound that contains static or popping, it probably is one of two reasons. First, you soundcard volume is too high. You need to reduce the WAVE and MIDI volume settings to half. The other reason is a DMA conflict with the card and another device. Click on START MENU>SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL>SYSTEM then access Device Manager. Click on each hardware tree (+) and make sure no "!" marks or red Xs appear. If they do, you will need to change the settings of the device. Commandos: Beyond the Call of Duty requires that you have a sound card, which fully supports DirectX 6.0. If you are getting loud static popping, or get no sound effects at all, you will need to update your sound card drivers to drivers that are compatible with DirectX 6.0. Please note that some sound card manufacturers do not have DirectX 6.0 compatible drivers yet. Until there is a driver available, you can try reducing the Wave volume in Volume Control. Double-click on the small speaker on the Windows task tray to open Volume Control. If you hear no sound or no music, make sure ALL volume sliders are placed at 75% full volume. Often your computer sound settings will be minimized if you ALT+TAB (or ALT+Esc) to the desktop. Further, using ALT+TAB can have the opposite effect of increasing the volume. You will need to set the sound volume to the default by double clicking on the Speaker icon in the task try. Why do I hear static or popping during the game?
Two things may cause this problem. You may simply have the volume set too loud. Double click on the speaker icon on your desktop and move the slider of the "Wave" and "Midi" volume to the half way point. Other possible causes for popping, static, or even no sound is that your sound card does not fully support DirectX 6.0. Note: There are some sound cards that do not have drivers that are compatible with DirectX 6.0 at this time. Verify in Windows that the sound card volume is up to mid-level for all sound reproduction. (Click on the volume system tray icon) Next, in the Control Panel, click on Multimedia and verify that your sound card is active and the PREFERRED device for playback. Finally, check the SYSTEM control panel and verify NO conflicts with the soundcard are present. INSTALL the latest drivers for your soundcard. |
